PMI United Kingdom Chapter Celebrates International Project Management Day

Image
Lights, camera, action! On 3 November, the  Synergy 2011  event at the Indigo O2 in London opened its doors to a myriad of high-profile project managers from across the globe. An impressive lineup of 14 acclaimed speakers joined the  PMI United Kingdom Chapter  to celebrate International Project Management Day. Effectively engaging project teams, choosing the best people and managing oneself emerged as common themes throughout the day. From senior politicians and sportspeople to TV celebrities, participants learned how project management spans across many industries. “Delivering a Successful Society, Together” was also the theme of the day. Claire Young, finalist of BBC1’s hit TV show The Apprentice, shared the stage with participants from three PMI projects all aimed at developing project management skills in school children. An inspirational project taking shape in Italy and the United Kingdom is the Teaching Project Management in Schools. This was the dream ...

Split second

It was here a second ago...  her fingers felt the pavement ..moving across the ground searching for her wallet..it was gone. She blinked frantically and wiped the rain off her face with her hands. It was pouring now. Drenched to the skin she could tell this would be a long day. Her umbrella had a mind of its own as it stubbornly kept opening the wrong way! The clouds continued to roar overhead. This was impossible. A few seconds later the umbrella landed in the waste bin. A car missed her by a fraction as she ran across the road. Hair sticking to her face as she used one hand to shield her eyes. A flash across the road and the last thing she saw was concrete. Sirens and flashing lights. Muffled conversations and urgency filled the air. She felt a warm liquid trickle down her side as someone touched her face and a bright light blinded her. "She's coming to". A voice echoed through her head. She's awake... "Why would someone just walk into a car like that...

The man

There are men that need and desire her and long for her from afar There are men that think they have her figured out and want to control her There are men that chase her and wait all the time There are men that love her even when they are committed elsewhere There are men that hate her but still admire her courage There are men that aim for her and then are shaken off with time There are men that lost her and continue to regret There are men that wanted her and didn't get a second glance Then there is that man that intrigues her...the one she hones in on...a choice is made -a decision is done. There is a man and a woman : a single unit.

Self-indulgence

A friend's status update on Facebook got me thinking today: "A nd it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. God knows but you do not know.” (Quran 2:216)" Life and its ups and downs… How many times we think the worst of all things that are destined to happen-happen to us? How brave we think we are to get through unscathed in our own trials and tribulations. How often we forgot that there are people out there so much worse off. People who can barely make their ends meet yet their faith in Allah is unwavering. How easy it is to attach oneself to other people and worldly fears. How being brave is not about simply getting through the hard times but also remembering Allah when the going is good. When things are really good… when laughter comes easily and love surrounds you…we have the audacity to think we had something to do with it...as though we somehow engineered it... Our highs and lows. Questions raised...

Tomorrow

Where are we exactly? Are we moving forward facing the wind or letting the wind take us wherever it chooses? Who is choosing our direction? Is it safe to flow and let things be or should we be taking the horse by the reigns. Is over thinking this path a negative or a positive? Should time be dedicated to this experience or should another be chosen? The wonder of it all is the mere thought that we are choosing our direction. Each breath, each moment and each day are a blessing. Seeing you, hearing you and knowing you are gifts from the divine. Come to realise that time isn't mine and it isn't yours. Its way to short . Its a life force controlled by a greater source. A source beyond our interpretation and perception. Something so amazingly pure it takes us a lifetime to explore. We may not see the morning or the evening after a morn. Our beginning may be our last one and our shared time may end in a few seconds. The frailty of life and its limited time. So much to ...

Feel it

Such an incredible tiredness- it seeped into her bones. An endless journey that makes her weak. She knows tomorrow will be another day but if it is like today -it will be a long one. Time passes slower and everything seems like more of an effort. Then, life happened. It came, she felt it... It passed, she felt it... It lingers...she feels it. Hope , positivity and care. They came and they will come...they always do... for that belief she is thankful ...but only when this tiredness passes...for now it lingers and persists...settling heavily...taking hold ...she is shielding herself from the cold. Then, life happened. It came, she felt it... It passed, she felt it... It lingers...she feels it. Confusion and a lost direction. Such an incredible tiredness took hold that it seeped into her bones.Where from here? Acceptance? Rejection ? or Avoidance? Holding on to something so very tight...it gasps for air. She made it into a dream...it was effortless and smooth -she could almost touch ...
