Mesmerizing without words

She looked passed the flailing waves beyond the horizon. The sun was deciding which way to go. It shone brightly over the water appearing and disappearing amongst the clouds. It was beautiful here. She savored these moments alone. No one was calling her name. It was delightful!  She loved her family but it was really hard. She had to take on a huge burden of the work in her home, marriage and child raising. She guarded it intensely one minute and then longed to be away from it the next. How had she reached here? This place wasn't familiar. She felt unseen and unheard. She felt like a she had jumped into the deepest of waters and while she was still breathing, she was also struggling to break free to the sky she saw above. The hazy water engulfed her and it held her tight. The grip was tightening. When had she let other peoples dreams replace her own? Her identity slowly dissolving into a myriad of endless lists and things to do. Not things to get done for herself but of things to g...

Figment of their imagination

There was a time when it was right It was somewhere in the beginning When things were new and unexplored There was a time when it was right When listening was enjoyed And patience was so much easier There was a time when it was right When spending time was enjoyable And not having enough of it was so hard There was a time when it was right When the journey seemed to have been worth it And seeing them made it believable There was a time when it was right together they were stronger And they could handle anything There was a time when it was right That time came and went so quick like the burning of a candle wick. There was a time when it was right but that time has passed Two paths have gone their seperate ways There was a time when it was right Perhaps they didnt listen Perhaps they lost their chance Perhaps the time was never right but a mere figment of their imagination.

Ghost writing for a GP - one of my many talents!

I helped a GP write an article for a magazine they wanted to get published in. If you'd like help with any content do give me a shout.  https://bjgplife.com/the- doctor-will-see-you-now/  The Doctor will see you now is a book worth reading. Dr Amir Khan deep dives into the recent headlines covered by newspapers across the country highlighting ‘’Doctors suffering ‘wave of abuse’ over lack of face-to-face appointments’’ (telegraph) or ‘’Face-to-face GP visits still near lockdown levels’’ (BBC) and ‘’PM Boris Johnson warns NHS GPs that thousands will ‘suffer’ without face to face appointments’’ (daily mail). The intense pressure us GPs are constantly facing can at times feel like a landslide ready to take us under.   The book would help any non-medical person get an in-depth view into an NHS GP’s highs and lows. The book is well written and keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. As a professional GP myself, I struggle with time for my own hobbies let alone read...

The King's favourite - The story that won!

Image
The King’s Favourite   Winner of the “Park & Write Competition, Theme for 2020: The Adventures of Erle and Harper, The Victoria Park Stags” Written December 2020 Copyright 2021   The sun was setting in Ashford’s, Victoria Park and the iron beasts shone in the dim light on both sides of Hubert fountain. As the real world was getting ready to sleep the magical world was starting to wake up. Suddenly, fairies appeared and flew down to circle the cast iron stags on both sides of the fountain. The fairy Queen landed on their magnificent antlers. She examined the creatures and knew they would make perfect gifts for the fairy King.   She instructed her fairies to entice the King by only delivering the antlers to him first. The fairy army men and women giggled as they set about the task of unhinging the two stag’s magnificent antlers. They wrapped them up in gold silk and left a sprinkling of fairy dust on the heads of each stag.   The next...

Story time! Park and Write 2020

Image
I won a local story competition in 2021 but never got around to posting it here . The story is to follow. It won but the local council I wrote it for never ran the campaign they were going to unfortunately. The idea was going to be to have celebrities read out the stories on their Youtube channel. I think with Covid and all the idea never got any airtime. My name is below for your viewing pleasure. As most of you know I love to write but life does get in the way and before you know it months and years have passed in the blink of an eye.

City lights

Image
The city lights were blinding. Life was as fast paced as ever in the zone that never sleeps. Can't say I missed this city with its deafening noise and its smokey streets. Facebook pictures would come out pretty well and they would be edited and posted in a second to look perfect -but the reality was so very different. I was tired . So tired. The long days and the longer nights were taking their toll. I was missing my family, my bed at home and my friends. I longed for a night curled on the sofa with no distraction but a book tucked into my knees and a mug of hot chocolate steaming on a near by table. A hot beverage I didn't have to make myself. Aaaah..how wonderful that would be. I just wanted to pack it all in, the city job; the six figure salary , the posh apartment- it had all, long lost its charm. I put on my pink headphones. My favourite song on full volume strumming through my ears and it perked up my spirits a little. Sweats on. I ran and ran. I ran through the ...

Euphoria

Image
She tapped wildly at the keys. She had so much to say. It flowed freely like her soul had been unleashed. Boundaries were broken and gates thrust open. Everything took a new shape and a crystal clear form. It was as though she could smell the freshly cut grass again. She hadn't smelled if for years. Everything felt new, cleaner and crisper. Something had changed. The doubt that had kept her words caged, locked and hidden felt as though it had been lifted. Encouragement came from her one constant source. They believed in her when no one else did and she rode high on this wave of utter euphoria. A burst of light made her jump and for a second her fingers froze at the keyboard. Running to the window she saw the night sky light up into a million colours. It was as though the whole world was celebrating her new found freedom. She had broken the chains. There was no stopping her now. She stood enthralled by the sight before her as bursts of fire lit up the sky.

Curious little one

Image
To watch you is to love you. My little one you are growing up too fast. Your fascination of everything new. Every sound , every movement and everything in your view. Your speed, your glee , your curiosity! How pleasurable and how proud a parent I am -to see you learn, play and see. The shine in your eyes, that moment of achievement. You are so full of surprises, emotions and curiosity. Those little fingers and that questioning. Every new song is a moment of utter concentration. A little dance move here and a little giggle there. You amaze me. You make my life new again my little curious one. I silently pray that your inquisitiveness grows and that with each day your learning achieves new heights. I pray for your safety and where your investigations may lead you-and then I feel you need to be careful. I want you to learn but also be safe-a mothers instinct , worry and happiness all rolled into one. I want you to push the limits and go where I never dared but slowly, take your t...
