Self-indulgence
A friend's status update on Facebook got me thinking today:
Life and its ups and downs… How many times we think the worst of all things that are destined to happen-happen to us? How brave we think we are to get through unscathed in our own trials and tribulations. How often we forgot that there are people out there so much worse off. People who can barely make their ends meet yet their faith in Allah is unwavering.
"And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. God knows but you do not know.” (Quran 2:216)"
How easy it is to attach oneself to other people and worldly fears. How being brave is not about simply getting through the hard times but also remembering Allah when the going is good. When things are really good… when laughter comes easily and love surrounds you…we have the audacity to think we had something to do with it...as though we somehow engineered it...
Our highs and lows. Questions raised on wisdom, naivety and saying things in a heated discussion that were out of character. All part of life and its endlessly turning wheel. Turning to Allah and raising our hands and thinking how often we forget that each experience, each emotion and each learning is from the Almighty. His invisible light and guidance leading to a brighter and fuller future- inshAllah.

We are a tide in the wind. We sweep up life and then let it go. With each wave our lives shortening in breath and time. We control nothing. .. We don’t change anything and neither do we manoeuvre situations to suit ourselves. We may have tried and in our arrogance thought we even achieved some of the things we set our minds too. The greatest misgiving of all is forgetting who lead you to the good times and through the tough times- SubhanAllah it was Allah. It was and always will be.
A prayer mat and an easily forgotten focus…How far we have come in our self –indulging ignorance. When do we truly let go and just believe that Allah will take care of us? We worry and toil, lose sleep over silly things and then feel sorry for ourselves-when all the while we are being moved on a stage through our paces-left, right and centre.
We all feel like we are at the Centre of our lives. How important we our in our own eyes…until something makes you feel small or makes you realise your insignificance in this vast and gargantuan world.
Allah give us the focus and the will to improve. May the improvement be in our minds, consistency and acceptance. May we learn to see ourselves for who we truly are and realise how much there is to change. Help us grow and evolve in the knowledge of our faith ..learn to teach ourselves and apply it in our lives and not only when it suits us. How easy it is do that and regret it later. We will make mistakes again ...and then again turn to you and beg for forgiveness…next time SubhanAllah please don’t let it be to late..
Thank you Allah ji for you...for surely if we really did have control...chaos would ensue...
