Mesmerizing without words
She looked passed the flailing waves beyond the horizon. The sun was deciding
which way to go. It shone brightly over the water appearing and disappearing
amongst the clouds. It was beautiful here. She savored these moments alone. No
one was calling her name. It was delightful!
She loved her family but it was really hard. She had to take on a huge burden of the work in her home, marriage
and child raising. She guarded it intensely one minute and then longed to be
away from it the next. How had she reached here? This place wasn't familiar. She
felt unseen and unheard. She felt like a she had jumped into the deepest of
waters and while she was still breathing, she was also struggling to break free to the sky she saw above. The hazy water engulfed
her and it held her tight. The grip was tightening. When had she let other
peoples dreams replace her own? Her identity slowly dissolving into a myriad of
endless lists and things to do. Not things to get done for herself but of things
to get organized for other people. The thing was though-that these were her
people. No one else's but her own. Who had taken over then? Had they taken over
her dreams or had she taken over theirs? Were they becoming her or was she
becoming them.
A sudden flash of light. How had it suddenly become so dark. She'd lost all account of time. The waves roared. Her head felt heavy. Maybe if
she could just close her eyes for a moment. Maybe the mermaids would come and
take her under the water to where their worlds collided with the oceans. She
laughed out loud, recalling the time as a child she would hold her breath under
water , open her eyes and believe that she could see them. Colours and fins ,
tails and hair. Hair long and short. Some tall and some small. Some short and
others rotund. She wondered if that one time when she had fallen asleep on the
boat...she had been awoken by those eyes. Those dazzling green eyes with a
roaring fire in them. She could have gotten lost in those eyes. She had blinked
and they were gone. She remembered the eyes clearly but not the face. Mermaids they say
only dazzle. They don't waste time talking.
