City lights
The city lights were blinding. Life was as fast paced as ever in the zone that never sleeps. Can't say I missed this city with its deafening noise and its smokey streets. Facebook pictures would come out pretty well and they would be edited and posted in a second to look perfect -but the reality was so very different.
I was tired . So tired. The long days and the longer nights were taking their toll. I was missing my family, my bed at home and my friends. I longed for a night curled on the sofa with no distraction but a book tucked into my knees and a mug of hot chocolate steaming on a near by table. A hot beverage I didn't have to make myself. Aaaah..how wonderful that would be. I just wanted to pack it all in, the city job; the six figure salary , the posh apartment- it had all, long lost its charm.
I put on my pink headphones. My favourite song on full volume strumming through my ears and it perked up my spirits a little. Sweats on. I ran and ran. I ran through the rain and the grey blistery haze the surrounded me from all corners. Then suddenly, I stopped. The lights were back. I stood in the city centre taking in the atmosphere. And, then -I ran. I ran and I ran until I had no idea where I was anymore -but now in this dark open space I could breathe. It was as though I had out run the city smog. I smiled. I fell on my backside in a exhausted heap and I burst out laughing. I shouted at the top of my lungs, over the distant bright lights 'Let me go zombies '
